Doraville Celebrates Lunar New Year

At the February 14th Council Meeting, the City of Doraville came together with the Global Federation of Business Women - Atlanta chapter and the Chinese Cultural School of Atlanta to celebrate the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Dragon. The celebration kicked off with a reception in City Hall that included a performance of the iconic Lion dance, performed by students from the Chinese Cultural School of Atlanta.

Following the reception Mayor Geierman issued a proclamation recognizing Lunar New Year in Doraville. Reading the proclamation, Mayor Geierman discussed the cultural significance of the celebration. It is a time when families gather together for reflection and renewal. As well as the culturally significant role that the Global Federation of Business Women and the Chinese Cultural School play in our communities. These organizations help preserve and promote cultural heritage like the vibrant tradition of the Lion Dance.

The award was presented to Michelle Jhu, President of the Global Federation of Business Women Atlanta Chapter, and Edith Belle, Vice Principal of the Chinese Cultural School of Atlanta. In accepting the award Michelle Jhu thanked the City of Doraville for the recognition and celebration of this special holiday. She also wished for this year to bring everyone wisdom, courage, happiness, and good fortune.
