Common Code Violations
As a homeowner, landlord, or renter it is vital to understand your city's codes and ordinances to help reduce unsafe conditions, eliminate disturbances, and enhance property values! To help with that we've put together a list of some of the most commonly seen code violations for residential properties.
- Landscaping Maintenance (Sec 5-66)
- City code states grass and weeds cannot exceed 8 inches in height.
- Parking on the grass/unpaved surface (Sec 23-1205)
- City code states vehicles must be parked on a paved surface.
- Open outdoor storage (Sec 5-29)
- City code states appliances, building materials, and trash cannot be stored outside. These items must be stored in an enclosed structure
- Permit Required (Sec 5-7)
- City code requires permits for renovations/projects where enlargements, demolitions, trade work, etc. take place. Please contact the permit department prior to beginning a project to see if permits are required.
- Inoperable vehicles (Sec 19-108)
- City code states vehicles must have valid tags and remain in an operable condition
- Commercial vehicles are prohibited in residential areas (Sec 19-63)
- City code prohibits commercial vehicles in residential areas.
