John Astor Pavlopoulos owns Tilly Mill Goodyear Auto Center, a family-owned and operated business. This five-star rated, full-service auto repair center, which he started in 2013, is 75% auto repairs and 25% sale and installation of new tires. The auto center is next to the Home Depot on Tilly Mill Rd. It offers all kinds of mechanical repair, from routine auto service to transmission and engine repair and replacement. It also sells popular name-brand tires like Goodyear, Michelin, Bridgestone, and Dunlop. They have 14 bays, where mechanics work simultaneously repairing cars, vans, or trucks inside the shop. He and his wife Dimitria operate the business, and they have a team of 10 people, including a Service Manager, Shop Foreman, Service Adviser, Master Mechanic, ASE-Certified Mechanics, and Secretary. An ASE Certified Mechanic is an automotive technician who has completed rigorous training, passed the exams to meet Automotive Service Excellence Certified Master Technicians requirements, and has at least two years of automotive work experience. This ASE certification qualifies them to work on all vehicles’ mechanical and electrical components and systems. John is a successful, business-oriented entrepreneur, and he believes in customer satisfaction the first time and every time. John is originally from Greece and came to America in 1975. "I am a technical guy," and "All the things I do, I do it fair and square and the right way." John’s first business was heating and air conditioning. He also worked for the hotel industry for 15 years, in charge of 35 hotels in the Southeastern US. John started buying and fixing small houses and then little by little switched to commercial real estate. In 2010, he designed and built the office building on Tilly Mill Rd, and when the adjacent property was available, he purchased it to demolish the existing structure and develop the auto center. "When you have your own business, it is not a 9-5 job. It is all-day, every day, every week, every month work,” John said. "Being entrepreneur, sometimes it can be challenging, like 2008 during the recession, but you get used to it. You need to take chances because if you never take a chance, you will never win. You can calculate everything, but you must take a chance and go for it. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst. And always, always have a Plan B in case things don't work well.
