Doraville Honors City Clerks Week

Every May we celebrate National Municipal Clerks Week. This week focuses on the hard work and dedication of Municipal Clerks as well as their impact on the community they serve.

Doraville is very lucky to have two accomplished professionals serving in our City Clerk department, Shanta Bingham, City Clerk, and Sannchaz Blackmon, Deputy City Clerk. During the May 8th City Council Meeting, Mayor Geierman and Dorville City Council honored Mrs. Bingham and Ms. Blackmon with a proclamation recognizing Municipal Clerks Week.

At the start of the presentation, Mayor Geierman took a moment to emphasize the significant impact our City Clerk team has made. Commenting that he has had the privilege to work alongside many skilled Clerks in his time as a public servant, but has truly seen impressive improvements in performance since the arrival of Mrs. Bingham and Ms. Blackmon. They have cleared through the backlog and unfinished business by updating the code of ordinances with missing legislation, approving over fifty sets of minutes, and ensuring the City is in line with records retention policies and practices.

Shanta Bingham has over seventeen years of experience in public service, nine of those years as a City Clerk. In addition to her daily duties for the City of Doraville, Mrs. Bingham is working on receiving her Master Municipal Clerk Certification and getting certified as a Georgia Municipal Clerk.

Sannchaz Blackmon has an extensive background in public service as well, having previously worked for a police department. This background has given her the opportunity to become well acquainted with Georgia laws and resident services. She is passionate about education and youth engagement, as such she spends her free time speaking to children about academic excellence and volunteering with troubled teens in the metro Atlanta area.

Thanks and praise for the work Mrs. Bingham and Ms. Blackmon continued throughout the meeting with Council Members and City staff taking the opportunity to publicly thank and celebrate the work done by the City's Clerk's Office.
