We are sharing the following update from Atlanta Gas Light on an upcoming utility project that will affect Buford Highway.
Atlanta Gas Light Buford Highway Replacement Update – Project More Than Halfway Complete in Doraville / Change Coming to Parking Access for Plaza at Buford Highway and McElroy Road
The Buford Highway Replacement Project has passed the halfway point for completion within the City of Doraville. Even with summer storms and rain, crews continue to make good progress.
Within the next week or two (mid-September), crews at the drill located approximately between McElroy Road and Oakcliff Road will begin lining up or “stringing” pipe in the active work zone to prepare for installation. Weather and other factors will determine exactly when the stringing gets underway. During that time, people visiting the shopping plazas in this area will need to use McElroy Road to access plaza parking. Signs will be in place to alert drivers to the change in parking access, and traffic control will be in place to help guide drivers.
Work in the drill area requires a 24-hour work schedule and is expected to continue through the end of September/early October. Atlanta Gas Light appreciates the patience and understanding of local businesses, drivers, pedestrians, and other community members as crews work to finish the drilling installation.
As a reminder, this project replaces old natural gas pipelines with new ones to better meet the needs of the fast-growing areas of Doraville, north DeKalb, and west Gwinnett Counties and may last up to two years. Work in Doraville is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
Replacement work is being completed in sections in the northbound travel lanes of Buford Highway during overnight hours between Central Avenue and Lake Drive. Traffic control is in place for the safety of workers and the community.
Please keep in mind that weather and other factors, such as rock below ground, may affect the project schedule.
