About City Council
The City of Doraville is governed by a mayor and six council members. Each council member represents the district in which they live, but are elected by a city-wide popular vote. All city elections are non-partisan (i.e. candidates do not run as members of a particular political party). The candidate that is elected during this Special Election will serve for a term that will expire December 31, 2023.

Qualification Requirements
To hold elected office in the City of Doraville, representatives must be:

  • A citizen of the United States

  • At least 21 years old

  • A Georgia resident for at least two year

  • A legal resident of the district the representative was elected for at least one year

  • A registered voter of the City of Doraville

  • A bona fide resident of the City of Doraville for at least one (1) year next preceding the

    date of the election in which they offer as a candidate.

In Georgia, candidates for local office must file certain forms and reports to remain complaint with state campaign finance laws. The Georgia Government Transparency & Campaign Finance Commission, or GGTCFC (formerly known as the State Ethics Commission), coordinates the submission of filings.

The Election Division of the Secretary of State

The Elections Division of the Secretary of State's office organizes and oversees all election activity, including voter registration, municipal, state, county and federal elections. They are responsible for certification of election results as well as certifying the qualification of candidates and preparation of ballots and election forms and materials.
